How to clean your pizza oven?
Your outdoor pizza oven is more than likely the delight of your backyard. But more often than not your pizza oven can become incredibly dirty after everyday/every week use. Thanks to the extremely hot cooking temperatures it is more likely your tomato sauce and slice of pepperoni will burn off rather than sticking to the inside of your oven.
You do not need to clean your outside pizza oven like you clean your inside kitchen ovens. Scraping away the ash and scrubbing the sides with a metal brush is efficient enough for cleaning an outside pizza oven.
We have put together this simple 5-step guide for your wood-fired ovens.

- Scrape out the ash from your pizza oven and put it into your disposable ash can.
- Do not worry if you can’t get all of it out but cleaning regularly will make your pizza oven burn better.
Scrape off the burnt food
- After removing the ash, you should look for the food or other stains on the inside of your oven. Although most foods will be burnt off some harder stains my still be there.
- You can use your metal wire pizza oven brush to start scraping

To finish
- To finish cleaning out your pizza oven give it a last wipe down with a wet cloth on the stones ready for your next pizza.
- You could even use white vinegar to clean the area but this is not always necessarily
What should I know about before getting a pizza oven?
Before getting a pizza oven you should think about 5 main things. How much space you have available, the amount of pizza you want to cook, the design and materials, the cost and the different fuel options.
- The amount of space you have
- Amount of pizza wanting to cook
- The design and materials
- The cost
- The fuel options
Pizza ovens can effect the taste of your pizza, whether you fuel with coal, wood or gas. This will also effect the way your pizza tastes. The amount of space you have is also extremely important, wood fueled pizza ovens are typically the biggest at around 2m x 2m with a wood storage. This cost of these machines can also be very expensive. Here is an article on alternatives to large stone pizza ovens.
