Gas ovens are more typically more energy-efficient than electric ovens, and natural gas was generally cheaper than electricity. However, as gas prices increase astronomically electric ovens have a bigger potential to save you money in the long term. Plus, electric ovens have the possibility to be ran from renewable energy, like solar or wind.

What is a gas oven and how does it work?

As you can probably tell from the name, a gas oven is heated with gas. Usually propane gas or natural gas is used for this purpose. The oven first heats up to full heat by a gas flame from below. The flame is reduced to the lowest level as soon as the desired temperature is reached.

What is a electric oven and how does it work?

As the name of this type of stove probably suggests, this stove runs on electricity.

Resistance heating is the trick behind electric stoves. The electricity is passed through a conductor. The electrical resistance of the conductor causes it to heat up slowly. This means that the more electricity you pass through the conductor, the more the conductor heats up and thus the oven.

Did you know that?

As this type of oven works exclusively on gas, the oven can also be used in the event of a power failure and without any power supply.

Russell Hobbs Single Fan - Editor's Choice

Russell Hobbs Single Fan

The information in this section is according to Amazon.co.uk (24.09.22)

The Russell Hobbs single fan oven (RHFEO6502B-M) was a clear choice for us, with an energy efficiency rating of A and an annual consumption of 0.79 kilowatt there is no wonder this model won “Editor’s Choice”. The convection electric oven weighs 28kg and can be built into your kitchen.

The RHF has black glass, the built in fan oven has an impressive 65 litre capacity, brilliant for cooking dishes for your entire family. With 5 oven functions including: convection with fan, single grill, and grill with fan; it gives you the flexibility you need to deliver the best cooking results. The normal easy clean interior is standard on this Russell Hobbs model too.

Russell Hobbs Mini - Best Value

Russell Hobbs Mini

Again, this list wouldn’t be completed without 2 Russell Hobbs models. The mini ovens major selling point is that Russell Hobbs claim that this oven can cook 2.5x faster than a conventional oven. The mini has a variety of 4 Different Settings – Grill, bake, toast and keep warm.

Enjoy cooking everything from roasted vegetables to large pizzas or even crunchy toast. Best of all, it has a 4x Faster Preheat than a Conventional Oven (claims Russell Hobbs) so you can make your favourite food faster.

Circulating convection airflow ensures fast, even cooking for perfect results every time and this model comes with a large cavity volume 22.8L.

SIA UB01SO - Best Energy Consumption

SIA UB01SO

The information in this section is according to Amazon.co.uk (24.09.22)

We had not heard of SIA before this review. But this oven has the Amazon’s choice for built in electric oven, so we decided to give it a chance. Straight away this oven comes with a company 2 year guarantee, which we thought was great considering it has a fairly low price. The SIA was slightly heavier coming in at 33kg but has the standard size of 60x60cm.

The UB01SO is a stylish yet functional, built-in single oven. The oven comes with a modern black glass front (like most ovens) and stainless steel accessories allowing it to blend in with any kitchen’s décor. Designed to meet your every need, this single oven is sure to make your cooking experience far more enjoyable. The oven features a removable door and internal glass panels. Also with a mechanical oven timer.

Bosch Serie 21 - Most Extras

The information in this section is according to Amazon.co.uk (24.09.22)

The Bosch Serie 21 is our answer to a premium electric oven. With the heavy price tag comes a brand with quality and experience. This particular model has many extras and different cooking settings compared to the others on this list. The special features consist of Bosch’s 3D air cooking system. Bosch’s 3D cooking uses hot air in a conventional system and cooks food evenly and quickly.

This oven weighs 24kg and can also be built into the kitchen to reduce space. The Bosch Serie 21 has an average rating of 4.7/5 stars and has 125 ratings. Also including Amazon’s 30 day return policy. Definitely one to consider for the extra money.

What now?

After testing many ovens, our clear conclusion is that every oven has good and bads. Ultimately it depends on the users needs in deicing which oven to buy. Nevertheless, it can be said that also with electric stoves, a larger budget definitely opens up more quality and exclusivity.
