Whether you’re shopping for a new oven, dishwasher or any other home appliance, buying options and finding a cheap retailer can be complicated. We reviewed prices from Currys, Amazon.co.uk and Argos. In-store and online. You will probably be shocked at the results.

Have you ever considered not buying an oven and stuck with a microwave or an air-fryer? According to Which.co.uk, air-fryers for are becoming ever more popular as they offer a healthier option for cooking foods.

What is an Air-Fryer?

In simple terms, an Air-Fryer is a small counter top convection oven. Designed to feel and stimulate like a deep fat fryer, without submerging food into deep fat frying oil.

A fan (convection oven) circulates hot air at high speeds, producing a crispy layer over the foods you are cooking.

Some reviews have found that Air-Fryers can cook foods to a higher standard than normal conventional ovens and toasters. Essentially the same as “convection baking”

Are Air-Fryers really expensive?

There is a misconception that all Air-Fryers are really expensive and premium products. That is actually not the case. Although there are models out there for less than 100, personally I would spend that extra 10 or 20 pounds to get a branded product I know that works.

We tested the highest rated Air-Fryers on Amazon.co.uk and decided on these 2:

  1. Cosori Air-Fryer
  2. Ninja Air-Fryer Max

Are Air-Fryers really healthy?

Air-Fryers are great alternatives to cooking with oil or butter, they give us low fat foods without the hassle of cooking. They cut out the fat and it saves those calories. Studies have shown that using an Air-Fryer reduces oil intake up to 80%.

The cooking process named Maillard reaction takes place between reducing sugars and amino acids of the food items that gives flavour and aroma to them. The taste of the food fried/cooked with an Air-Fryer is a slight difference to the traditional frying method, however, this slight variation in taste can be easily disregarded for the benefits it offers over the traditional frying method.

Why I like Air-Fryers as oppose to standard ovens or microwaves?

  • Very low fat food
  • Saves oil
  • No need to fir
  • Better for the environment
  • Saves time and clean up

Can I use aluminium/metal foil with Air-Fryers?

Unlike microwaves that use radiation to cook foods. Air-Fryers just use hot air sped up. I see no problem with putting metal foils or something of that nature into your Air-Fryer.

Although acidic foods are known for corroding metal container. This is just as true with a conventional oven or convection oven too.

We tested 10 different Air-Fryers, these include the Philips Essential, Philips Premium, Tower Xpress, Tefal Easy Fry, Moncook double Air-Fryer. But we decided on the 2 best, being Cosori and the Ninja.

COSORI Air Fryer

The information in this section is according to Amazon.co.uk (20.12.2022)

The Cosori Air Fryer is probably the best we tested, the cheap price and double digit functions along with the large 5.5L capacity is a no brainer.

Cosori is committed to providing a cheaper way for cooking – half the oven time and less electricity” Cosori strides on being able to save money on electricity and cooking. With 85% less oil compared to deep frying, you only lose the fat but still get the same crispy chips and chicken wings.

The 11 preset options displayed on the front of the cooker was the best design element and does not feature on other fryers in this price range. The 5.5L advanced square basket maximizes the cooking area and serves more food than the round one. The size is even big enough for a 2.2kg roast chicken.

The CP158‘s unique detachable fryer basket allows you to seperate the oils from the foods. Disposing of the oil properly. Or just cook with pure heat.

Casori also claim “Tested by experienced Cosori Chef Team, the recipes meet your frying, grilling, and baking expectation; Besides, search for asin B07PRJYGB2 to get more inspiration” The basket (where the food is placed) is of course PFOA Free, non-stick, also easy to clean with soap water.

Ninja Air Fryer (AF100UK) 3.8 Litres

The information in this section is according to Amazon.co.uk (20.12.2022)

More expensive than the Cosori, the Ninja Air-Fryer (AF100UK) was our second top pick for the best Amazon.co.uk Air-Fryers. Ninja is a reputable brand, the makers from the famous blender have developed a range of fryers.

The display along with the buttons definitely felt premium to touch. But the lack of preset features unlike the Cosori is something to think about. Ninja claim: “Up to 50% faster than fan ovens,  this easy-to-use Air-Fryer offers a healthier way to cook using little to no oils” The standard model has only 4 cooing functions unlike the more expensive MAX with 6.

Ninja have also worked hard to reduce that plastic chemical smell when cooking. But after a few runs the smell goes away.

The Ninja also includes dishwasher safe parts and includes a 3.8L non stick basket with crisper plate. The 4 cooking functions include Air Fry, Roast, Reheat and Dehydrate. Which all have the option without oil.

Our conclusion?

All of the Amazon Air-Fryers we tested were satisfactory. The 2 that stood out, the Ninja and Cosori had elements the others did not. We were impressed with the Cosori Air-Fryer digital display and multiple buttons for quick use. But the Ninja brand is already very well known.
