What is the difference between a indoor pizza oven and a stone pizza oven?

An indoor pizza oven is a standard kitchen appliance that is designed to cook pizza and the majority of the time they are electric. Indoor pizza ovens use heating elements to heat the oven chamber, usually in the shape of a pizza to save space, but some more expensive “restaurant style” cookers are in the shape of mini ovens. An indoor pizza oven typically has a temperature range of around 150-250°C. These pizza ovens tend to be smaller in size and can be more convenient for home use as they can fit into most kitchens and cupboards.

A stone pizza oven, on the other hand, is specifically designed for making pizza, although bread, vegetables and slow cooked meat can also be cooked. They often have a dome-shaped design with a stone floor/base that absorbs and retains heat, the fumes and toxins from the burnt material (usually wood) is then passed through the top out of the chimney. The dome shape allows for hot air to circulate around the pizza, which helps to create a crispy crust and cook the pizza quicker. They are typically heated with wood, charcoal or gas (but sometimes more expensive synthetic fuels can be used) and can reach higher temperatures, around 300-500°C, allowing the pizza to cook faster. A decent garden pizza oven can cook pizzas in around 2-3 minutes.

The main difference is that a stone pizza oven is usually bigger and placed outside, but can’t be used all the time. Whereas an indoor pizza oven is a kitchen counter top appliance.

Are indoor pizza ovens safe?

Like all hot appliances, extra caution must be take when using them. Many indoor pizza ovens are counter top and can be plugged right into the wall. Indoor pizza ovens can easily reach over 300 degrees Celsius so it’s important to be careful.

Stone based pizza ovens or “garden pizza ovens” shouldn’t really be used in the house, because they produce many toxins with the fuel used to heat the oven. Whether you use wood or special types of coal, they should be used outside.

As for the “saftey” of indoor pizza ovens, like all appliances that get hot, the materials and appliance itself is made to be used many times. These materials will most likely protect and dampen the heat against your pizza oven.

Are indoor pizza ovens worth it?

Whether you’re a pizza professional or an average enjoyer, pizza ovens are a great tool for all types of people. Indoor pizza ovens can be worth it if you enjoy making homemade pizza and want to achieve a high-quality, restaurant-style crust. They can also be a convenient option if you have limited outdoor space or want to be able to make pizza year-round. However, they can be expensive and take up a significant amount of counter space, so it’s important to consider your budget and available space before purchasing one. Additionally it’s worth to mention, you can also achieve great pizza with indoor pizza ovens.

Our conclusion

No matter if you are a pizza expert or you just want a quick meal without big effort, the Ariete 909 is definitely worth considering. This indoor pizza oven surprised us in terms of many points. The unique design, ease of use and relatively cheap price. With the Ariete 909 you can look forward to perfect pizza every time, without spending a fortune.
